    George Wilson Younce (February 22, 1930 – April 11, 2005) was a Southern gospel bass vocalist, known for performing with Southern gospelquartets, especially The Cathedral Quartet.[1]

    Biography

    Born in Patterson, North Carolina, Younce (YAHNS) [2] was the youngest of four siblings.[3] His father was his biggest influence when young Younce decided he wanted to be a singer.[3]: 12  In 1936, the Younce family moved to Lenoir, North Carolina.[3]: 20  At the age of 15 in his hometown, George received his first taste of Southern Gospel music.[4] As a teenager, Younce joined his first quartet, known as the Spiritualaires.[5] When his voice changed, he switched to the bass part that he would sing for the rest of his life.[6]
