    The Early Life and Military Career of Joseph Kabila

    Joseph Kabila Kabange, born in the remote town of Hewa Bora, South Kivu, was the eldest son of Laurent-Désiré Kabila, a prominent Congolese rebel leader.

    Amidst his father's forced exile to Tanzania, Kabila completed his education in Dar es Salaam and Mbeya.

    He embarked on a military training journey in Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, joining his father's rebel group, the Alliance of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Congo-Zaire, in 1996.

    During the First Congo War, he commanded operations.
